چکیده

Research on accessibility, a measure of ease reaching potential opportunities, has advanced significantly, but the adoption these measures by public transport agencies lagged. One explanation may be that research been conducted at different spatial scales from stop level typically used agencies. To address this gap, study examines relationship between accessibility to jobs and average daily bus boardings bus-stop analysis in Portland, Oregon. Our models show could increase 1.8% 2.1% for every 10% measured as number reachable 30 min transport. This finding supports argument accessibility-focused service improvements have bolster stop-level ridership since network adjustments new services like bus-rapid-transit often yield considerable increases accessibility. At same time, inter-stop competition reduces an individual stop's ridership. conveys benefits planning regional scale links decisions back ridership, context most familiar agencies, hope will accelerate extend practice.

Examining the influence of stop level infrastructure and built environment on bus ridership in Montreal

We studied transit ridership from the perspective of the transit provider, with the objective of quantifying the influence of transit system operational attributes, transportation system infrastructure attributes and built environment attributes on the disaggregate stop level boardings and alightings by time of day for the bus transit system in the Montreal region. A Composite Marginal Likeliho...

Assessment of Models to Estimate Bus-Stop Level Transit Ridership using Spatial Modeling Methods

The objective of this research is to develop and assess bus transit ridership models at a bus-stop level using two spatial modeling methods: spatial proximity method (SPM) and spatial weight method (SWM). Data for the Charlotte (North Carolina) area are used to illustrate 1) the working of the methods and 2) development and assessment of the models. Features available in Geographic Information ...

An Empirical Study of Particulate Matter Exposure for Passengers Waiting at Bus Stop Shelters in Portland, Oregon, USA

Current guidelines for the location and design of bus stops do not take into account air quality or exposure considerations for waiting passengers. This paper compares the exposure of transit riders waiting at three-sided bus stop shelters that either: 1) face roadway traffic, or 2) face away from roadway traffic. Shelters were instrumented with devices to monitor particulate matter concentrati...

Journal of the Urban and Regional Information Systems Association 5 Using GIS to Measure the Effect of Overlapping Service Areas on Passenger

This study examines the effects of overlapping walking service areas of bus stops on the demand for bus transit. This requires controlling for variation in potential transit demand as measured by the number of dwelling units and their locations. A model of passenger boardings for the morning peak hour of service is estimated. Boardings are modeled as a function of potential transit demand at th...
